Does it work?

Arbitron research shows that that 90% of visitors recall seeing digital signs and 80% say they actually watched the signs. Of these, 47% showed an unaided awareness of at least one message or concept described on the sign. Recollection was higher for digital signs than the same message delivered by TV.

Our Goal: To increase community health throughout the state by communicating timely health information directly to patients as they wait

The Basics:

  • We install 26” digital signs in your waiting area(s)
  • Connected through the Internet, these signs display information constantly updated by Don Yost, a 25 year communications professional with extensive experience working at Maple City Health Care Center
  • Your health center can also post your own announcements and information to your digital signs
  • All costs -- installation, maintenance, software, content & support -- are included in a monthly lease or annual fee

Content (see example in upper right):

A series is from 3 to 15 individual posters that address an issue or topic. Your RedPost display will come loaded with five series:

  • H1N1 information
  • Quit Smoking
  • Preventing child dental decay
  • Proper use of child safety seats
  • Tips for getting the most out of a health center visit

Every series provided by the Indiana Health Information Network includes an English language version and a Spanish language version. We create a new series each month. Our content provider (Don Yost) collects suggestions for new series. He requests suggestions with a monthly email. (Or you can email suggestions to Don at any time.)

To create content, Don uses:

  • Information published by the Center for Disease Control (CDC)
  • Bulletins published by the Indiana State Department of Health
  • A board certified family physician to review medical information

  • Some posters will need specific information about your health center. Don collects this information by phone or email. He inserts the information in the posters that play on your center’s signs.

You have the opportunity to review a new series before it shows on your center’s signs. You can choose which series play on your center’s displays.

You provide:

  • wireless or wired internet at each location

Signup deadline: January 31, 2010. We'll begin installations in early 2010.

Costs:

Prices include:

  • 2 26" digital signs on stands
  • installation
  • 3 year warranty
  • support & maintenance
  • software subscription
  • content management

If leasing: $150/mo (approximate, requires approval of leasing company), $57/mo after the first 36 months
If purchasing: $2,889 up front (+$988/each additional sign), $57/mo after the first 36 months.

Technical Description:

How it works:

  • each sign consists of a computer attached to an LCD
  • the computer connects over the internet to pull content from RedPost's central server

Technical details:

  • Bandwidth: the signs use a minimal amount of bandwidth and cache all content to minimize further, estimated at 2-5 MB per day
  • Security: all ports on each sign are locked down, the signs are run running Ubuntu 8.04 with the latest security updates, all communication between the sign and the server is also encrypted, preventing someone from sniffing the traffic as it goes over the network

Support & Training:

Each location will be invited to an online training session to explain how everything works and answer any questions. Ongoing support is provided via phone (877-733-7678, M-F 9-5), email (support@theredpost.com) and IM (Google Talk: support@theredpost.com)
