Here's what we've recycled so far:

RedPost/Recycle - Recycling Drop-off Point

New partnered with ADEC, who processes e-waste locally in Elkhart County. If you have a large amount of e-waste, call ADEC directly at 574-389-7457 x543 to arrange for pickup.

Products don't need to be designed to use less resources. Product design simply needs to take a holistic approach, much like nature operates -- with closed cycles and no waste; otherwise known as Cradle to CradleSM design. As a first step in the direction of certified Cradle to Cradle design, we attempt to send as little waste to the landfill as possible.

E-waste/end-of-life electronics:
  • Accepted: CRT/LCD monitors, computers, servers, laptops, keyboards, mice, cables, circuit boards, phones, TVs, VCRs, DVD players, printers, cell phones, copiers, video games, and UPS backups
  • Other info: all hard drives and data contained on them are completely destroyed
  • Cost: TVs ($10 small, $20 large), UPS backups ($10) and floor copiers ($50)**
Electronic media:
  • Accepted: disks, CDs, DVDs, audio/video/VHS/any other sort of tapes, game cartridges, hard drives, printer cartridges Other info: we are not responsible for any private or sensitive data submitted, destroy any data before delivery
Batteries:
  • Accepted: rechargeable batteries, battery chargers & cables
  • Not accepted: alkaline/disposable batteries

Indiana E-waste/Household Hazardous Waste

Every county in the state has a household hazardous waste program. In Elkhart County, the first Saturday of every month from 8 am - 3 pm it's free for residents to drop off e-waste, tires, oil, old paint and other household hazardous waste. As of January, 2010, the new drop-off site is located at the Elkhart County Jail, 26861 CR 26, Elkhart IN. Call 574-293-2269 for info.

In May of 2009, the Governor signed a new e-waste bill, which will implement e-waste collection by manufacturers across the state starting in April of 2010.

Other waste items can be taken to the following locations for recycling. If you know of other providers or would like to add to the list, email us with their info.

  • Books and Textbooks: BetterWorld Books Goshen (118 E. Washington St., Goshen, IN 46528)
    Bring in your used books and textbooks, they'll resell what they can, donate what's worthwhile to charities and recycle the rest.
    There's also a handy drive-thru drop-off bin at 211 S. 5th St., Goshen
  • PVC/Industrial Plastics: Fryman's Recycling (Dowagiac, Michigan)
    Will supply 10-15 yard containers to your company's site at no cost.
  • Polystyrene (Styrofoam): EFP Corp accepts clean, non-food polystyrene
  • Recycling Concepts, accepts all kinds of foam and plastics, must be pre-sorted, call 574-296-8000 for info
  • #5 plastic: can be mailed to Preserve Products in NY state
  • Electronic media (CDs, VHS tapes, DVDs, audio tapes, printer cartridges, rechargeable batteries): for a small fee, ship your old media to GreenDisk, they have up to 70 lb prepaid boxes you can fill and pick-up service for more than 500 lbs
  • End-of-life Electronics: Staples
    Staples locations throughout the country accept all brands of computers, monitors, printers, laptops, fax machines and all-in-one devices for a fee of $10 per large item. Televisions, which Staples does not sell, will not be accepted.
  • Most metals (copper, aluminum, steel, scrap): OmniSource (Goshen, IN)
    Accepts most scrap metal of all kinds and even pays you for it! They have locations all over the Midwest and in the East.
  • Old concrete: as long as it's free of re-bar/metal reinforcement and trash, you can drop it off in Goshen at the Aggregate Industries plant -- go in the main entrance off US 33 and take a right, there's a large pile by the pond.
  • Glass, aluminum, tin, steel, #1/#2 plastic, cardboard, newspaper, magazines: Elkhart County
    Oddly, County government doesn't list local drop-off points on their website. But this helpful directory does.
